Hepatic cell differentiation antibodies: alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and albumin detection
During hepatic cell differentiation from pluripotent cells (iPS and ES cells), parallel measurement of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and albumin can be used to monitor the acquisition of differentiated cellular function. AFP is normally produced by cells in the liver and yolk sac during fetal development and is thought to be important for prenatal hematopoietic function. Albumin replaces AFP function after birth, and therefore, high levels of AFP are rarely detected in normal adult blood. However, elevated levels of AFP occur with various diseases of the liver, including acute hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, and liver cancer.

Antibodies for AFP and albumin detection
The Monoclonal Antibody to Human Alpha Fetoprotein can be used for Western blot analysis or immunocytochemical or immunohistochemical staining of human AFP. Albumin monoclonal antibodies are available for detection of either human, mouse, or rat albumin by immunocytochemical, immunohistochemical, or Western blot methods.
