PrimeSTAR Max DNA Polymerase—fast and high-fidelity PCR
PrimeSTAR Max DNA Polymerase Ver.2 has the highest fidelity and fastest extension rate of any Takara Bio enzyme. Building on the original PrimeSTAR Max DNA Polymerase (Cat. # R045A/B), a higher volume of input template (up to 1,250 ng) can be used while maintaining the same exceptional processing speed (~5 sec/kb). This additional feature allows you to amplify rare or low-abundance targets, handle various sample types, or skip the need for adjusting input amounts on a high-throughput platform.

PrimeSTAR Max DNA Polymerase is based on Takara's unique, high-fidelity PrimeSTAR HS DNA Polymerase combined with an elongation factor to provide efficient priming and extension, which greatly reduces the time required for annealing and extension steps. It is formulated as a 2X premix containing optimized buffer and dNTPs, which allows for quick preparation of reactions for high-throughput applications.
In addition, standardization of the extension step time makes all versions of PrimeSTAR Max DNA Polymerase suitable for reactions with excessive nucleic acids that would ordinarily be difficult to amplify due to non-specific binding. The superior processivity of PrimeSTAR Max DNA Polymerase prevents inhibition by excessive nucleic acids, resulting in a much higher success rate for PCR with minimal required optimization. The antibody-mediated hot-start feature provides improved specificity by preventing false initiation events during the reaction assembly.
Overview
- Highest fidelity of any commercially available DNA polymerase (420X higher than Taq polymerase)
- Fastest extension speed (5 sec/kb) means less time required for PCR cycles
- Convenient 2X premix includes buffer and dNTPs, allowing reaction assembly in less time
- Antibody-mediated hot-start formulation
- Proven performance as reported in peer-reviewed literature
- Input volumes of 12.5–1,250 ng (Cat. # R047A/B) or 12.5–200 ng (Cat. # R045A/B) of template for the fast version of the protocol

I really liked it. I intend to keep buying."
—Sierra Simpson, SCRIPPS RESEARCH INSTITUTE
I used PrimeSTAR MAX polymerase for mutagenesis PCR. For all the sample, mutations were correctly introduced. It took only two days to obtain mutant clones."
—Fumiaki Ito, UNIV OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
I could not amplify some DNA fragments by using Taq or pfu. I have to use Phusion to amplify these fragments; however, PrimeStar MAX DNA polymerase can do it too. In addition, PrimeStar is easier than Phusion. I totally recommended this product."
—Suwat Saengkerdsub, UNIV OF ARKANSAS
It is very high fidelity polymerase even for long fragments like 12 kb and gc rich. already brought it!"
